Leonard A. Roepke, 81, of Aurora, Iowa died on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at the Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein, Iowa after a brief illness

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 3, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, Iowa; Officiating: Rev. Ron Spears and Rev. Charis Combs-Lay; Visitation: from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, Iowa where there will be a Military Memorial Service at 7:30 P.M. by the Aurora American Legion Post # 435.

Visitation will also be one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery in rural Oelwein, Iowa with military graveside rites by the Aurora American Legion Post # 435

A Memorial Fund has been established in his name.

Leonard is survived by: 2 Sons—Robert (Monika) Roepke of Hazleton, Iowa John (Cindy) Roepke of Urbandale, Iowa 3 Daughters—Beverly Krum of Independence, Iowa Joan (Dan) Hall of Waterloo, Iowa Judy (Garry) Moore of Independence, Iowa 15 Grandchildren 3 Step Grandchildren 7 Great Grandchildren 3 Step Great Grandchildren Brother—Albert (LaVon) Roepke of Aurora, Iowa

He was preceded in death by his Parents—Wife (Margaret A. Roepke on August 18, 2003)—Daughter (Jean Ann Roepke)—a Great Granddaughter (Olivea Krum)—4 Brothers (Edward Roepke, Walter Roepke, Carl Roepke, and Frank Roepke)—and a Sister (Erna Roepke).

Leonard August Roepke was born on June 3, 1927 in rural Aurora, Iowa the son of Gustav and Anna (Mandalek) Roepke. He married Margaret Alfhild Slater on August 3, 1952 at the St. Paul Lutheran parsonage in Aurora, Iowa. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict serving in the Navy. Leonard was a lifelong farmer in the Aurora area. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurora, Iowa where he held many church offices, the Aurora American Legion Post # 435, Aurora Community Club, Farm Bureau, and was on the Spangler Cemetery Board. Leonard has been a resident of the Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein for the past year.
