Marion Saunders, 99, of Davenport, Iowa and formerly of Independence, Iowa died Saturday morning, March 28, 2009, at the Iowa Masonic Home in Bettendorf, Ia., following a long illness.

Marion was born on December 14, 1909, near Rowley, Iowa the daughter of Mahlon and Maude E. (Griffth) Conrad. She was united into marriage to Harold G. Saunders on May 15, 1929 in Independence, IA. The couple resided in Michigan for fifteen years prior to returning to Independence, IA in 1944. In 2004 Marion moved to LeClaire, Iowa to live with her son until her health required her to move to Bickford Cottage in Davenport in 2006, she just recently moved to the Iowa Masonic Home.

She is survived by a daughter Janette Johnson, Riverside, CA., a son Harold Saunders, LeClaire, IA., seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, a brother Mahlon (Willis) Conrad, Manchester, IA., and a sister Margaret Sankey, San Angelo, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold in 1993, a daughter Nona Burwinkel, two sisters Mona Love, and Marise Conrad, and a brother Murry Conrad.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence with Rev. John Hougen officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence and from 9 A.M. till services Friday at the church.
