Alice Jean Reck was born September 19, 1932, at Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Ray and Esther Malone Frentress. She attended the Manchester schools, graduating with the class of 1952. Alice was united in marriage to Harlan E. Reck. They made their home on the farm north of Winthrop where they raised their large family.

Alice was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Winthrop. Loving her cherished eleven children, tweny-eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren was her favorite hobby. She enjoyed attending ballgames, concerts, and any activity where they were participants. She was an Iowa State wrestling fan, and liked to travel, especially to the gambling casinos. She will be fondly remembered for preparing her large family dinners as well as the personal attention that she gave to the preferences of the individual family members. Alice and Harlan were the family's shining example of loving parents.

Alice entered into her eternal rest on Thursday, January 8, 2009, at her home surrounded by her caring and loving family. She was 76 years of age.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Esther Frentress; her infant daughter, Gail; her grandson, Francis Fangman; and her great grandson, Luke Kress.

Survivors include her husband, Harlan of Winthrop; her eleven children: Sue (Jim) Frye of Hazleton; Rusty (Shelly) Reck of Winthrop; Mary (Glenn) Baragary of Winthrop; Nancy (Randy) Coulter of Independence; Cathy (Tim) Donnelly of Independence; Mike (Kristi) Reck of Winthrop; Alice (Donny) Fangman of Masonville; Paul Reck of Winthrop; Margie (Doug) Barske of Independence; Barb (Brent) Straw of Winthrop; and Sherlyn (Chad) Hazen of Winthrop; twenty seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two brothers: Bob (Gen) Frentress of Manchester and Harold (Shirley) Frentress of Fort Dodge; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 10, 2009, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Winthrop with Father Donald J. Plamondon officiating. Music will be provided by Bonnie O’Brien, Michelle Reck, Stephanie Harbaugh, and Travis McBride. Casketbearers will be her grandsons: Matt Frye, Jay Frye, Brent Reck, Ryan Baragary, Keith Donnelly, Will Fangman, Michael Barske, and Chase Straw. Honorary bearers will be her other grandchildren and great grandchildren: Michelle, Kelly, Krista, Lisa, Kelsey, Molly, Christopher, Elizabeth, Annie, Joseph, Gradon, Blaise, Megan, Mitchel, Ellie, Caleb, Carter, Foster, Cavon, Parker, Tate, and Taylor. Interment will be in Fremont Township Cemetery north of Winthrop.

Memorials may be directed to the Progressive Supra-Nuclear Palsy Association.

The Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop assisted the family with arrangements. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, January 9, 2009, from 2 PM until 8 PM and on Saturday from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM.
