VINTON: Sarah Jane Gipe, 90, died Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart following an extended illness.

Private Committal Services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sarah was born February 28, 1918 near Quasqueton to Samuel and Lena (Borst) Gipe and attended Woodward School. She served as a housekeeper, cook and caregiver for several families. In her leisure she enjoyed crocheting, reading, embroidery and puzzles.

She is survived by her sisters, Luella Gipe of Vinton and Verna Hohrman of Des Moines.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, George and Dell Gipe and her sister, Elizabeth Smith.
