Independence - Marjorie L. Reth, 84 years old, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, November 13, 2008, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, following a short illness.
She was born on August 28, 1924, in Macon County, Missouri, the daughter of Lee Weldon and Elsie Mae (Long) Lamb. She graduated from high school in Manchester, Iowa. On March 17, 1955, she and Earl E. Reth were married at the First United Methodist Church in Independence, Iowa.
Mrs. Reth was a journalist at the Independence Newspapers until she retired in 1980. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion, Iowa, the Farm Bureau, and A.A.R.P. She was also a task force member for the Heritage Agency on Aging.
Mrs. Reth is survived by her husband of 53 years, Earl, 1 daughter, Mona (Ken) Walker of Elgin, Illinois, 2 granddaughters, Melissa (Matt) Brunell of Auburn, Washington, and Kimberle Walker of Elgin, Illinois, and 1 great granddaughter, Madelyn Brunell. She is also survived by 1 sister, Dorothy Jaynes of Ellsinore, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Marion, Iowa, with Vicki Standley officiating. Private burial services were at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Iowa.
