INDEPENDENCE –John “Mike” McInteer, 77, of Chandler, AZ, formally of Independence, IA, died Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Hospice of the Valley Inpatient Unit in Arizona.
Mike was born April 23, 1931, in Independence, Iowa the son of Frank & Josephine (Sexton) McInteer. He graduated from the Independence High School in 1949 and remained in the area until he entered the US Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict, where he served for two years as a radio operator. He made his way to Arizona, working first in Albuquerque, NM. In Arizona, he obtained his contractor’s license and started his construction company, which he operated for 25 years. He was forced to retire in 1988 after a serious construction accident, but was able to continue his love for wood, by making many special gifts for family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years Linda, children; Karen (Kim) Delaney, Phoenix, AZ, Mary (Bob) Burrill, Tucson, AZ Gene (Vickie) McInteer, Las Vegas, NV, Step children; Cathy Easley , Cliff Wall, Richard Chandler, Jennifer Chandler, Russell Burn all of Arizona and Toni Burns of Alaska, a brother Tim McInteer of Independence, a sister Loretta Johnson of Independence, his grandchildren, great grandchildren and special nephews Mike & Dave and nieces Kathy & Teresa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Mary Jo Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, with Rev. Donald Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 A.M. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
