BRANDON - M. Ruth Brown, 93, of Brandon, died Saturday, March 29, 2008, in the Buchanan County Healthcare Center following a brief illness. She was born April 6, 1914, in rural La Porte City, the daughter of Bert and Della Jones Bagenstos. She married Everett E. Brown on Oct. 6, 1932, in Galena, Ill., he preceded her in death in 1990.
Ruth and Everett were farmers in the Black Hawk and Buchanan counties their entire lives. She was a member of the Brandon United Methodist Church, the ODO Community Club, IDK Club and the Lime Creek Fish and Game Club.
Survived by three sons, Keith (Ada) Brown of Marshalltown, Gene (Linda) Brown of Waterloo, and David (Diane) Brown of Maple Grove, Minn.; one daughter-in-law, Marlene Brown of Brandon; 13 grandchildren, Brenda (Ray) Bailey of Texas, Kaylene (Bill) Brown of Anchorage, Ala., Scott Brown of Brandon, Becky (Tom) Peterson of Bondurant, Karen (Brian) Thomson of Barrington, Ill., Kathy (Eric) Christianson of Lake Mills, Bryan (Judy) Brown of Marshalltown, Lisa (Brad) Lindley of Cedar Rapids, Blake (Amberley) Brown of Des Moines, Caprina (Shasha) Brown of Minneapolis, Minn., Melissa (Cris) Bergeson of Edina, Minn., Ryan Brown of Maple Grove, Minn., and Stacie Brown of Maple Grove, Minn.; one stepgrandson, Jeff (Penny) Laue of Wilkes-Burre, Pa.; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Larry Brown; and one brother, Delbert Bagenstos.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at the Brandon United Methodist Church with burial in the Brandon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the La Porte City Funeral Service and for one hour before the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Brandon United Methodist Church or the Brandon Area Community Center.
