Jesup - Mary D. Riensche, 86 years old and formerly of Jesup, IA, died of kidney failure, Monday, September 10, 2007 at the Oelwein Healthcare Center in Oelwein, Iowa, where she had been a resident for the past two years.
She was born July 11, 1921, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Odell Hendricks and Mayme (Bonorden) Hendricks. She moved to Minneapolis, MN, at an early age where she graduated from Miller Vocational High School with the class of 1942. On August 26, 1943, she was united in marriage to Marvin Henry Riensche at Zion Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. They made their home on the farm south of Jesup where they raised their family. Mary was a member of Zion Lutheran Church Jubilee, and the Ruth Circle. Over the years, she was also active on various committees in the Farm Bureau, and held various offices in the Rural Women’s Study Club, Allen Hospital Auxiliary, and served on the Black Hawk County Elections Board for many years.
Mrs. Riensche is survived by 1 son, James (Jolayne) Riensche of Cedar Rapids, IA, 2 daughters, Carol (John) Chase of Scottsdale, AZ, Sandra (Steven) Smothers of Oelwein, IA, 2 grandchildren, , Bryan (Melissa) Riensche of Tolono, IL, Carmen Riensche of Cedar Rapids, IA, 6 step-grandchildren, 16 step-great grandchildren, 1 sister, Dorothy Delmonico of Burnsville, MN and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, on August 3, 2005, and by her parents.
Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. – Thursday, September 13, 2007, at Zion Lutheran Church – Jubilee, rural LaPorte City, IA, with Pastor Ernest Elzey officiating. The organist was Renee Jesse. Casket Bearers were Richard Delmonico, David Delmonico, Thomas Delmonico, Donald Luloff, Erwin Luloff and Paul Peterson. Burial was at Zion Lutheran – Jubilee Cemetery, rural LaPorte City, IA. Memorials will be directed to Zion Lutheran Church at Jubilee.
