Independence - Agnes J. Nieth, 91 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at Buchanan County Health Center LTC in Independence following a short illness.

She was born on November 4, 1914, in Lincoln Township of Winnebago County, Iowa, near Rake, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph Theodore and Betsy Louise (Erickson) Haugen. She graduated from the Rake, Iowa, high school and completed her B.A. degree from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, when she was 50 years old. On June 6, 1945, she and Wayne Anderson Nieth were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1978.

Mrs. Nieth taught in Shell Rock, Grundy Center and Newton, Iowa, school systems. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Independence.
Mrs. Nieth is survived by 1 brother, James Haugen of Columbia, Tennessee, and 2 sisters, Geneva Fransdal of Estherville, Iowa, Lillian Morris of Pamona, California.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Judith Nieth, 1 brother, Elvin Haugen, and 1 sister, Myrtle Schneider.

Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2006, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. John Hougen officiating.

Casket Bearers were Merrill Fransdal, Wayne Fransdal, and Mark Fransdal. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Iowa.
