Independence - Viola M. McMorris, 80 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Saturday, August 26, 2006, at her home following a sudden illness.

She was born on March 19, 1926, in Sidney, Iowa, the daughter of Ray and Hazel Bea (Hatfield) McBee. She attended the Decatur, Iowa, schools. On February 21, 1944, she and John Lewis McMorris were married in Osceola, Iowa. They have made their home in Independence, Iowa, since 1953. Mrs. McMorris was a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence, the Blue and White Pottery Association, and the Red Wing Pottery Collectors Society. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years and also volunteered with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

Mrs. McMorris is survived by her husband of 62 years, John L. McMorris, Sr., 3 sons, John L. (Sue) McMorris, Jr., of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Fred (Barb) McMorris of Barrington, Illinois, and Roger McMorris of Independence, Iowa, and special extended family, Karen (Bob) Schumacher of Jesup, Iowa. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Helen McMorris of Kellerton, Iowa, and JoAnn Evans of Fairview, Illinois, 1 brother, Jamie (Betty) McBee of Paoli, California, and 1 foreign exchange son, Luc VanTran, M.D. of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, Charles McBee.

Private Graveside Services were held at the Leon Cemetery in Leon, Iowa.
