JESUP – Robert Lewis Boster, 73 years old of Jesup, IA, died Thursday, October 19, 2006, at the Covenant Medical Center emergency room, following an apparent heart attack. He was born May 19, 1933, in Yukon, Missouri, the son of Lewis Jackson Boster and Abigail (Longbottom) Boster. He came to Iowa in 1950 and worked as a farm hand for farmers in and around the Dike, New Hartford and Waterloo area. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during the Korean Conflict, serving in South Korea and Japan, until 1954 and obtaining the rank of Sergeant. From 1958 until retirement in 1988 he worked at John Deere in Waterloo, IA, working as a mechanic on the repair line and then in the assembly area. On February 13, 1960, He was united in marriage at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA, to Evelyn Alice McFarland of Waterloo and formerly of Green City, MO. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 838 in Waterloo. He also worked auction sales and was known for his ability in repairing garden tools and other small tools.
Mr. Boster is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Jesup, IA, 1 daughter, Connie Sue (Christopher) Steffen of Lincoln, NE, 1 son, Larry R. (Christine) Boster of Ionia, MI, 3 grandchildren, Katherine Anne Steffen, Michael Trent Steffen and Nicholas Anthony Boster, also, 1 sister, Bertha Wantland of St. Louis, MO. In addition to his parents, his was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Myrtle Lou Boster, who died in Florida and an infant sister, Grace Lena Boster.
Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. – Monday, October 23, 2006, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, with Pastor Robert W. Fredricks officiating. Music was by Shirley Bergman, organist and Delores Gerstenberger, soloist. Casket Bearers will be Mike Burrage, Dale Nation, Jim Trebon, Don Fratzke, Tim Corkery and Jeff Geiger. Burial was at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence, IA, with military rites conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup, IA.
