JESUP – Kenneth P. Bickert, 88 years old, of rural Independence, IA, died Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at West Village Care Center in Independence, Iowa. He was born November 15, 1918, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Joseph Bickert and Ida Mae (Stout) Bickert. He attended the Jesup High School and graduated with the class of 1939. During World War II he served in the US Army in Europe and North Africa, receiving the Bronze Star Medal. On August 11, 1958, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Mae Brown at Dubuque, Iowa. Mr. Bickert was a machinist at John Deere in Waterloo, IA, retiring in 1978. He was also a member of the United Auto Workers Union – Local #838 in Waterloo.
Mr. Bickert is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of rural Independence, IA, 1 son, Keith Bickert of rural Independence, IA, 3 grandchildren, Tracie (Virgil) Hovden of rural Independence, IA, Heather (Nic) Weers of Shakopee, MN, and Joshua Bickert of Minneapolis, MN, also 2 great grandsons, Tristan and Grayson Weers, 1 brother, Stanley Bickert of Jesup, IA and 1 sister, Lillian Voshell of Independence IA. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Slyvia, 2 brothers, Joseph Bickert, Jr., and Frank Bickert, a half brother, Raymond Ludden and a half sister, Nora Parker.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2006, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, with Rev. Vicki Reece officiating. Casket Bearers were Joshua Bickert, Virgil Hovden, Nic Weers, Jim Gillespie, Joe Vogel and Tom Duffy. Burial was at the Littleton Cemetery, Littleton, IA, with Military rites conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup, IA. Memorials will be directed to Fontana Park at Hazelton, IA.
