JESUP – Harry Lester Bate, 81 years old of Jesup, IA, died Saturday, February 17, 2007, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, IA, following a short illness. He was born January 8, 1926, in Camden, New Jersey, the son of Paul F. Bate and Mary (Abbott) Bate. Following his adolescent years he served in the US Navy where he met his wife Nadine. Harry and the former Nadine Norma Nordman were married October 17, 1944, in Pensacola, FL. She preceded him in death on October 17, 1997. Following their military service they moved to the Midwest and Harry worked for Deere and Company in Waterloo as a machinist and inspector. He retired from John Deere in 1980 after 27 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jesup, IA, the United Autoworkers Local 838 in Waterloo and the Evansdale AmVets in Evansdale, IA.
Mr. Bate is survived by 2 sons and daughters in law, Gary and Donna Bate of Birmingham, AL and Kevin and Carol Bate of LaPorte City, IA, also 8 grandchildren. In addition to his wife Nadine, his parents, 1 infant son, James Allyn Bate, and 1 sister, Helen Gray, preceded him in death.
Funeral Services were at 2:00 p.m. – Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church, Jesup, IA with Rev. Vicki Reece officiating. Burial was at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup, IA with Military Rites conducted by the AmVets Post # 30 of Evansdale, IA, and AmVets Post #19 of Waterloo, IA.
