JESUP — Donald H. Richards, 86, of Jesup, formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, Feb. 23, at East Towne Care Center, Independence, of natural causes.
He was born Dec. 7, 1921, in Ottumwa, son of George Washington and Opal Celestal Brooks Richards. On June 30, 1945, he married Joan Ruth Bottoms in Raunds, Northamptonshire, England.
Mr. Richards graduated from Burlington High School, then served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a machinist. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, in 1950, then taught school at Logan Junior High School, Waterloo, for 32 years, retiring in 1984.
Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Jane Farr of Jesup and Susan (Randy) Hahn of North Liberty; a son, Michael (Connie) of Denver; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: a brother, Gerald R.
Memorial services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Jesup, with inurnment later in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. White Funeral Home, Jesup, is in charge of arrangements.
