INDEPENDENCE — Wilma E. Wubben DeWaard, 81, of Independence, died Saturday, Feb. 23, at West Village Care Center, Independence, following a long illness.
She was born Dec. 30, 1926, in Titonka, daughter of Theodore and Bina Tjaden Van Hove. She married Donald “Dan” Wubben on Dec. 15, 1948. He preceded her in death in 1981. She married Gerrit DeWaard on Oct. 16, 1993, in Independence. He died in 2004. She and her first husband owned and operated the A & W Drive-In and the Robin’s Nest until 1978. She also was a Home Interior and Avon representative.
Survived by: a son; Douglas (Chris) Wubben of Independence; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence Van Hove of Kiester, Minn., Theodore Van Hove of Leland and Sylvester Van Hove of Cedar Falls; and three sisters, Florence Spear of Titonka, Sylvia Kiburtz of Bedford and Caroline Stenzel of Iowa Falls.
Preceded in death by: a son, Russell Wubben; three brothers, James Van Hove, Merlin Van Hove and Sander Van Hove; and a sister, Sylvia Van Hove.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, both in Independence. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
