WINTHROP — Paul R. Braden, 84, entered into his eternal rest Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at Silver Pines retirement center in Cedar Rapids, following a bout with cancer.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Church of Christ United, Winthrop, with the Rev. Randy Richter officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Winthrop. Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop, with a 7 p.m. Masonic service and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Paul Robert Braden was born March 19, 1923 at Winthrop, Iowa the son of Arly and Dorothy Otto Braden. He attended the Winthrop Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1940. He attended Iowa State University for two years.
Paul was united in marriage to Marjorie Louise Mead on June 25, 1950 at Manchester. To this union were born two children David and Susan. Paul farmed and milked Jersey cows for a number of years. He also worked at a variety of jobs along with his farming. He ran a cornsheller, fixed TV’s, was a technician for East Buchanan Telephone Coop, worked at the local implement shop, was a hail adjuster, and did real estate appraisals for Paul Brasch Realtors for 20 years. He was a long time member of the Church of Christ United, a 63 year member of Byron Lodge 546 A.F. and A.M, a 50 year and past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a 50 year member of El Kahir Shrine where he was a member of the Mini Pix parade group.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie of Cedar Rapids; his son David ((Ginger) Braden of Fairfax; his daughter Susan (Lamoine) Harms of Nevada, Iowa; three grandchildren, Nikki (Dwayne) Wookcock, Rob Braden, and Jennifer (Jeff) Neunier; three great grandchildren Gabe, Dominic and Keegan; his brother John “Jack” (Shirley) Braden of Dallas, Ore.; and many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to the Church of Christ or St. Luke’s Hospice.
