INDEPENDENCE — Helen C. McCullow, 86, of Independence, died at home Sunday, Jan. 20, following a short illness.
She was born May 19, 1921, in Calmar, daughter of Charles J. and Marie H. Zender McCullow. She graduated from Monona High School, Monona, in 1939, then was employed at the Buchanan County Courthouse, Independence. In 1976 she was elected Buchanan County auditor, serving in that position until retiring in 1988.
Survivors include: nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: three sisters, Angela Peters, Kathryn Carroll and Patricia Johanningmeier.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, with burial at 3 p.m. in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Monona. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home and Crematory, Independence, with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. parish vigil service.
