JESUP --- Lester Wayne Putnam, 88, of Jesup, died Thursday, Jan. 10, at West Village Care Center, Independence, following a short illness.
He was born May 17, 1919, in Arlington, son of Arthur Putnam and Edna Meisgeier. He married Ruby Fern (Dennis) Gosse July 22, 1952, in Iowa City. She preceded him in death March 12, 2000.
Mr. Putnam served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in China, India and Burma. He was an active farmer most of his life.
Survived by: three sons, Mick (Vicki) Putnam of Jesup, Gary (Ann) Gosse of Sacramento, Calif., and Darrel (Suzanne) Gosse of Terre Haute, Ind.; a daughter, Penny Putnam of Jesup; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Vera Olesen of Iowa Falls; and two brothers, Royden (Gladys) of Osage and Wesley (Bernita) of Cedar Rapids.
Preceded in death by: two brothers, Dale and Loyd; a sister, Hilda Beltz; and a grandson.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the American Lutheran Church, with burial in Cedar Crest Cemetery, both in Jesup. Military rites will be conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
