WINTHROP - Margaret L. Merrill, 91, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007, at the Buchanan County Health Care Center LTC in Independence, after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at the Church of Christ United in Winthrop. Interment will be in Wilson Cemetery east of Independence. The Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop is in charge of arrangements.
Margaret Louise Merrill was born Nov. 29, 1916, at Long Prairie, Minn., the daughter of Clyde R. and Verna Thompson Merrill. She graduated from Long Prairie High School in 1933 and Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in education.
Margaret loved children and started teaching at West Union, Iowa, before coming to Winthrop where she taught first grade and kindergarten classes. After more than 40 years of classroom teaching, she retired from East Buchanan Schools in 1981.
Survivors include cousins and friends including her caretakers and special friends, Bob and Sharon Monaghan and their family.
