TROY MILLS - Ardyth Sue "Ardy" Cherry, 74, of Troy Mills, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital, after a four years battle with aplastic anemia. Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Troy Mills Christian Church, by the Rev. James Wolfe. Burial will be in Troy Mills Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Survivors include her husband, Ray; her three children, Michael (Kim) Cherry and Raelyn of Marion, and Alyssa, Troy, and Robyn Cherry, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; Randa (Bob Caskey) Cherry of Cedar Rapids and their two "cat" children, Ariel and Gabriel; and Marc (Dawn) Cherry and their children, Spencer and Canon, who reside on the Cherry Family Century Farm in Troy Mills. In addition, Ardy has a great-grandchild, Adrian, born to Alyssa in 2004.
Also surviving are her siblings; LuVerne (Joan) Randa of Hemet, Calif., Marlys (Bob) Brown of Oelwein, Karel (Buddy) Buice of Swannannoa, N.C., and Kathi (Garry) Brown of Nuevo, Calif.
She was preceded In death by her parents.
Ardy was born June 18, 1933, the daughter of Kalmer and Louise (Oleson) Randa on the family farm in rural Emmet County, Iowa. She grew up in northwestern Iowa and attended Waldorf College in Forest City, receiving her associate degree. In 1951, she went with her parents when they relocated to San Bernardino Calif., where she taught kindergarten at Highland Lutheran Church School. She later attended Upper Iowa University where she received her B.A. degree. Ardy married Raymond Forrest Cherry on March 21, 1953, at Highland Lutheran Church. Raymond was stationed in San Diego, Calif. at the time of their marriage. They then moved to Walker, Iowa, Raymond's hometown, where she taught, kindergarten and later junior high at Troy Mills School.
She worked for Bob Zimmerman Ford for 20 years before becoming a Realtor for Skogman Realty, where she still has listing,s and closings pending. She was a member of the Cedar Rapids Area Association of Realtors (CRAAR) where they have created a high school scholarship fund in Ardy's honor.
Dearest to her heart was her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her delight and joy in other people will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the scholarship fund established in Ardy's memory at CRAAR or to Troy Mills Christian Church.
