Edgar I. Snyder
INDEPENDENCE - Edgar I. Snyder, 87, of Independence, Iowa, formerly of Jesup, died on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at West Village Care Center in Independence following a long illness.
He was born on March 24, 1919, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the son of Irvin and Bertha Mae (Casteel) Snyder. He attended the Liberty #3 country school in Buchanan County. On July 15, 1942, he and the former Edna Agnes McLaren were married in Buchanan County, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1952. On Dec. 8, 1961, he and the former Fern Luttrell were married in Cedar Rapids. She preceded him in death in 1972. On Aug. 18, 1973, he and the former Ida Roy were married in Waterloo. They were later divorced. Mr. Snyder farmed in Buchanan County and worked at the Buchanan County Co-op in Independence. He retired in 1978. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Jesup.
Mr. Snyder is survived by four sons, Duane (Barb) Snyder of Elk Horn, Richard (Mary Ann) Snyder of Anchorage, Alaska, Albert (Shirley) Snyder of Masonville, and Larry (Lyndia) Snyder of Rowley; two daughters, Nancy (Robert) Peters of Waterloo, and Sharon (Dale) Flemming of Royal, Ark. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, one sister, Berneta (Weslie) Putnam of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Snyder of Cedar Rapids, and Ruth Arthaud of Stanley.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gerald and Marvin Snyder, and one sister, Virginia Snyder.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, with Rev. Vicki Reece officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence.
Friends may call for visitation from 4 until 8 p.m. on Monday, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
