ROWLEY - Funeral services for Raymond E. Hartgrave were held Tuesday, Aug.5, at St.John's Lutheran Church, Center Point, with the Rev. David Hansen officiating. Burial was in Keystone Cemetery,
Keystone. The Reiff Funeral Home, Quasqueton, was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hartgrave, 77, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997, at East Towne Manor, Independence.
He was born Dec.3,1919, in Ladora, the son of Ralph and Josie (Hawkins) Hartgrave. He graduated from Conroy School in 1939, and later that year entered the U.S. Navy, serving until his discharge in 1946. On Feb.14,1945, he married Leona Schuldt in Marengo. The couple farmed near Rowley until 1966, when he became employed with the United States Post Office in Cedar Rapids. He retired in 1984. Mr. Hartgrave was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Center Point, and the American Legion Post 217 in Atkins for 52 years.
Survivors include his wife, Leona; one son, Roger of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Patricia Foster of Tempe, Ariz.; two grandsons;and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mildred Slaymacker, Dorothy Coover, and Clara Jean Solem; and four brothers, Lawrence, Donald, Vernon and Leonard.
