William 'Bill' Wendling
INDEPENDENCE - Funeral services for William H. 'Bill' Wendling will be 1:30p.m. today (Saturday), Nov. 9, at St. John's Catholic Church,Independence, with the Rev. AI Vorwald officiating. Lector will be Diana Fountain and Steve Wendling. Music will be provided by St. John's Choir accompanied by Mrs. Frank Brimmer, organist.
Burial will be in the church cemetery with Danny Wendling, Harry Kohl, Mike Wendling, Doug Wendling, Chris Kamman and Greg Kamman serving as casket bearers. Friends may call anytime at the Reiff Funeral Home where a rosary and vigil service were held Friday.
Mr. Wendling, 90, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 1996, at the Peoples Memorial Long Term Care Center, Independence, after a long illness.
He was born Sept. 2, 1906, near Independence, the son of Joseph F. and Winifred (Walsh,) Wendling. He was a 1924 graduate of Independence High School. On June 12, 1934, he married Donna A. Conrad at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein. The couple farmed near Independence until their retirement in 1977, at which time they moved into Independence. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church,the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Knights of Columbus in Independence.
Survivors include six children, John (Pat) Wendling of Cedar Rapids, Tom (Judi) Wendling of Maple Park, Ill., Joan Wendling and Judy Leisinger, both of Waterloo, Jim (Pat) Wendling of Independence, and Larry (Lori) Wendling, of Hudson; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marian Durham of Tulsa, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna on June 4, 1995; three brothers, Harold, Herb, and the Rev. Louis Wendling; and four sisters, Hazel Weepie, Helen Weber, Harriet Kelley and Marguerite Wendling.
