In Response To: Town of Minkler (Ruth Jenkins)

Minkler may be an existent town in California, but in the 1890's it was a post office in Warren Township, Bremer Iowa. The 1891 Farmer's directory of Iowa was a traveling salemen list of farmers and lists several names as occuring in Minkler PO. Meyers, Bechner and Gantebein were not listed but they may not have been considered as farmers or they were not present during this time period. Few records are usually associated with PO's but they are indicators of residence. Not all PO's served only one county by the way. A filmed book does exist of abandoned post offices of Iowa.

The date of this list is of interest because in 1893 there was a financial crisis that sent many farmers packing. The 1895 or 1900 census represents the survivors of that crisis that did not move to Nebraska, Minnesota , Washington or California.
