GEORGE BEEBE OF WAVERLY DIES OF SLEEP SICKNESS
Prominent in School Athletics and Scout Activity; Ill Since Nov. 18.
Waverly, la.—George Beebe, 19, known for his leadership in athletics. Boy Scout and Methodist church activities, died Monday morning as result of an illness which attending physicians diagnosed as sleeping sickness. He had been ill since Nov. 18.
Graduated In 1931. Beebe was graduated from Waverly High School in 1931 and during that and the preceding year he played on the football and basketball teams. He was a member of the freshman football squad at Iowa State Teachers College in 1932, and during the present season has been line coach for Waverly football players. He has been employed in Grassfield Show Store since returning from Teachers College. He was scoutmaster for the Rotary Scout troop and taught in the M. E. Sunday school.
Grandfather Among Survivors - Survivors are his grandfather, George W. Beebe, a veteran of the Civil War; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martell Beebe; four brothers and one sister: Norman, Robert, Donald, Dick, and June Beebe.

Sickness Victim's
Funeral WednesdayWaverly, la.—Services for George Beebe, 19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Martell Beebe, and former Waverly High School football and basketball star, will be Wednesday. He died Monday at Mercy Hospital following a week's illness from sleeping sickness.
There will be a service at 2:15 p. m. Wednesday at Kaiser Funeral Home and one at 2:30 at the Methodist Episcopal Church. Burial will be at the Harlington Cemetery. Rev. Herbert Temple, pastor of the Methodist church, will officiate.

Scouts Attend Beebe Funeral
Services for George Beebe, former high school athlete, and prominent in Boy Scout work, who died Monday following a 10-day illness of sleeping sickness, were at the Methodist Episcopal Church Wednesday afternoon. Boy Scouts, numbering more than 100, from Waverly and surrounding towns attended in a body.
Pall bearers were Lyle and Marshall Carpenter, Melvin Mundt, Will Chestnut, Will Woodring and Ed Harden, all members of the high school basketball team on which he played during his student days. Among the beautiful floral gifts was a large floral "W" presented by Monogram men from Waverly High School. Rev. Herbert Temple officiated at the services. The high school was dismissed in the afternoon that the students might attend the services.
