TRIPOLI — Dorothy Loris Shaner, 83, of Tripoli, died Thursday, June 23, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes.

She was born July 16, 1927, in Klinger, daughter of Otto and Martha Hesse Richmann. She married Lowell D. Shaner Jan. 5, 1947, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Readlyn. He died Jan. 17, 2003.

She graduated from Readlyn High School in 1945. She worked at Wholesale Market Office at Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo, Sumner Produce for seven years and in 1968 she was a secretary at Sumner Community Schools, retiring in 1989.

Survived by: three sons, John of Sumner, and William (Deb Reichen) and Steven (Susan Peterman), all of Oelwein; two daughters, Robin (Logen) Harms of Tripoli and Leesa (Jim) Wickman of Davenport; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Gertrude Dettmering of Tripoli; a brother, Donald (JoAnn) Richmann of Waverly; and three sisters-in-law, LaVelle Richmann of Iowa Falls, Maxine Benda of La Porte City and Lois (Willard) Jesse of La Porte City.

Preceded in death by: two brothers, Melvin and Eldon “Joe” Richmann; a sister-in-law, Millie; and a daughter-in-law, Ellen.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Tripoli, with inurnment in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Sumner, at a later date. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Rettig Funeral Home, Tripoli, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
