TRIPOLI — Roger Allen Jurgensen, 75, of Tripoli, died at home Monday, March 15, from lung cancer.

He was born Jan. 20, 1935, on a farm near Andrew in Jackson County, son of Herman and Adela Schroeder Jurgensen. He married Vernette Seehase on Aug. 17, 1955, at St. John Lutheran Church, Sumner.

Mr. Jurgensen graduated from Sumner High School, Sumner, in 1953. His went to work at Earl Epperson Construction, Sumner, and later took a union apprenticeship to lay brick and block. This apprenticeship took him to jobs in Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois. He worked general construction jobs as well. The couple operated a photography business, Home Studio, Inc., from 1962 to 1965. He left the construction field and went to work for John Deere Co. in 1973, retiring in 1995. During that time he also owned Roger’s Electronics from 1978 to 1982; did bookkeeping for his wife’s floral business, The Blumenhaus, from 1981 to 1996; mowed lawns, drove for Bill Doran Co., and worked construction in Cedar Rapids. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany.

Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Cindy (Lance) Hemel and Valerie "Missy" (Darrell) Doss; a son, Jeff; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne (June) and Arnold (Morie); and a sister, Dorothy Mangan.

Preceded in death by: two granddaughters; a brother; and a brother-in-law.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church, Sumner, with burial in the church cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Thomas E. Woods Post 223 American Legion of Sumner. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Sumner, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.
