DENVER - Alfred Richard Gienau, 90, of Denver, died Sunday, May 5, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo. He was born June 23, 1922, in Bremer County, son of Gustav A. Gienau and Clara Schmidt Gienau. He married Arleen Elsie Brey May 30, 1948, at First Lutheran Church, Waterloo. She died in 2006. Mr. Gienau attended school in Denver and worked at Willard Prestien Poultry Farm in Denver, John Deere, Elmer's Auto Repair in Denver and Hinson Manufacturing. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-46. Survived by: a daughter Patty (Ron) Myhre of Macedonia; two sons, Arnie of Fremont, Neb., and Rodney (Karen) Gienau of Denver; four grandchildren; a great -granddaughter; and a brother, Louis of Tripoli. Preceded in death by: two sisters, Esther (Raymond) Bartling and Verena (Ed) Westendorf; and two brothers, brothers, Charlie (O. Arlene) and, in infancy, George. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Denver Baptist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Denver, with military rites performed by Acker Matthias American Legion Post No. 653 of Denver. Visitation will befrom 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Denver. Memorials: may be directed to Denver Baptist Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
