Margaret Shannon, 96, of Oelwein, Iowa died on Monday morning, May 27, 2013 at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein after a short illness.

There will be a private family graveside service; Officiating: Rev. John Kerr; Public visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein; Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein, Iowa.

Margaret Holmes was born on March 17, 1917 at Tripoli, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Clara (Moeller) Holmes. She was raised in Littleton, Iowa where she attended Littleton Grade School and Jesup High School at Jesup, Iowa. Margaret was united in marriage to Clifford Shannon on October 24, 1937 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

She worked at Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo, Iowa before Clifford and Margaret started farming in the Westgate, Iowa area. After retiring from farming, they moved to Oelwein where Margaret was employed by Pamida for several years.

Margaret enjoyed playing cards, dancing, gardening, and cooking Sunday dinners for her family. She was a member of the Oelwein Golden Circle, Maynard Senior Citizens and the Kitchen Klatter Band. She especially enjoyed attending the Hazleton Friday night Hootenanny.

Margaret is survived by: 2 Sons—Larry (Ruth) Shannon of Hiawatha, Iowa and Wayne Shannon of Des Moines, Iowa Daughter—Marilyn Bennett of Oelwein, Iowa 2 Grandchildren 4 Great Grandchildren Many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband (Clifford Michael Shannon on June 17, 1987) and a sister (Dorothy Jesse)

She will be missed by all her knew her.
