WAVERLY — John Edward McDonald, 80, of Waverly, died Wednesday, June 12, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

He was born June 25, 1932, in Horton, son of Earl D. and Marie Fritz McDonald. He married Donna Lou Foss in 1958. She preceded him in death.

He graduated from Waverly-Shell Rock High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a graduate of Universal Trade School in Omaha. Mr. McDonald and his wife operated McDonald Refrigeration in Waverly for 25 years. He most recently worked as a driver for Jerry Roling Motors, Waverly.

Survived by: his companion of many years, Barb Fettkether; three daughters, Kathleen (Randall) Schroeder of Coralville, Liz (Jody) Elliott of Perry and Kelly (Tim) North of Shakopee, Minn.; two sons, Bill (Cheri) of Centerville and Mike (Terri) McDonald of Raymond; 11 grandchildren, Nicole Fruendt, Adrian Elliott, Natalie Elliott, Madelaine (Caleb) Hornsby, Samuel Elliott, Samantha North, Joshua North, Santana McDonald, Austin McDonald, Brittany McGuire and Katelyn McGuire; a great-grandchild, Brianna Fruendt; three sisters, Mary Jean Safrenk of Omaha, Neb., Edith Rankin of Marshalltown and Ann (Tom) Murphy of Minneapolis; a stepsister, Neva Jean Welter of Chicago; and a half brother, Rich Eggleston of Waverly.

Preceded in death by: a stepsister, Vernetta Krueger; two brothers-in-law, Don Rankin and Lou Safrenk; and a half sister-in-law, Deb Eggleston.

Celebration of life services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly; visitation from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Over the years, John had been very active with the outdoors; hunting and fishing were his greatest passions.
