WAVERLY -- Marilyn May Stirlen, 88, of Waverly, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly.

She was born Oct. 1, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, daughter of Dewey and Margery May Rubins Miner. On Nov. 6, 1942, she married Ned N. Stirlen in Lancaster, Mo. He died in 2002.

Mrs. Stirlen worked at Rohlf Memorial Clinic as a secretary for 25 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Waverly, and a 64-year member of the PEO.

Survived by: two sons, Steve (Elba) of Rockford, Ill., and Jim (Virginia) of Eden Prairie, Minn.; two daughters, Susan (Jerry) Dixon of La Pine, Ore., and Kathy Stirlen of Lafayette, Ind.; 11 grandchildren, Selena, Coley, Benjamin, Amber, Jenny, Lisa, Neal, Christy, Stacy, Britne and Brooke; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Bee Gray of Ankeny; two special nieces and nephew, Jayne Goerdt, Julie Hoogland and John Gray; and a daughter-in-law, Miko Stirlen of Montgomery Village, Md.

Preceded in death by: her parents; a son, Bill.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Waverly, where family will greet family and friends for an hour before the service. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials: may be directed to either Trinity United Methodist Church, Cedar Valley Hospice of Waverly or Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community.
