SUMNER -- Louis Joseph Bishop, 81, of Sumner, formerly of Denver, died Saturday, Sept. 21, at Community Memorial Hospital, Sumner.

He was born April 9, 1932, in New London, Conn., son of Rexford Thorncliffe and Mabel Florence Douchette Bishop. In August 1983 he married Joan K. Becker.

He graduated from high school in Connecticut and attended college for three years. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed building roads and bridges by various heavy construction companies over the years. He and his wife were also resident managers at Fullerton Funeral Home, Rockwell, for many years.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Kent Dobbs of Denver, Colo., and Steve (Tonia) Dobbs of Waterloo; a daughter, Diana (Brad Nation) Meyerhoff of Dunkerton; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: his parents; and several brothers and sisters.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Congregation Church, Tripoli. Thomas E. Woods Post 223 American Legion of Sumner will provide military rites. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Denver, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Sumner, is assisting with arrangements.
