WAVERLY -- Gary Lester Boorom, 73, of Waverly, died Monday, Sept. 23, at the Waverly Health Center.

He was born March 19, 1940, in Waverly, son of Lester and Dahlia Krueger Boorom. On Oct. 8, 1973, he married Dita Woolsey in Marshalltown,

Mr. Boorom was a 1958 graduate of Waverly High School. He was a fireman with the Ames Fire Department for eight years, then began selling fire equipment as well as teaching at the ISU Fire Service Extension, both posts he held for over 30 years. He served on the Waverly City Council for 18 years and was a member of Prairie Lakes Church, Cedar Falls.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Jeff Haskin of Grundy Center and Tracy (Leslie) Haskin of Waverly; a daughter, Cindi (Rick) Zimmermann of Madrid; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dennis “Dex” (Karen) Boorom of Crocker, Mo.

Preceded in death by: his parents.

Services: were 10:30 a.m. today at The Centre Hall, with burial in Harlington Cemetery, both in Waverly. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, was in charge of arrangements.
