WAVERLY -- Wilma Maria Cooley, 83, of Waverly, died Monday, Sept. 30, at Waverly Health Center from complications of viral meningoenchephalitis.
She was born Sept. 25, 1930, in Douglas Township, rural Bremer County, daughter of Herman and Clara Oberheu Brase. On June 12, 1949, she married Leo Frank Cooley at St. John Lutheran Church - Western Douglas; he died April 25, 1997.
Mrs. Cooley graduated in 1948 from the Waverly High School, and then worked as a bookkeeper for Schlutsmeyer’s (B.E. Mick’s) for a year. She later worked for Waverly High School as a secretary. In 1958 she began working at Schield Bantam Co. (Koehring/Terex), retiring in 1992 as an order entry manager. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly.
Survived by: two sons, Michael L. (Carla) of Waverly and Thomas L. (Susan) of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; two daughters, JoLynn C. (Tim) Redies of Palm Cost, Fla., and Ann L. (Cooley) Laube of South Elgin, Ill.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosamond “Rosie” Hoffman of Waverly; and a brother, Jonathan (Candy) Brase of Milwaukee, Wis.
Preceded in death by: her parents; a grandson; three brothers, Paul, Jerry and Robert Brase; two sisters, Selma Carroll and Martha Griesert; three brothers-in-law, Robert Griesert, Keith Carroll and Robert Hoffman; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Brase.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with burial in Harlington Cemetery, both in Waverly. Visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, Cedar Valley Friends of the Family, or the church for a future family designation.
