TRIPOLI - Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 6 for Ernst Gustav Redies, 88, long time resident in the Tripoli vicinity who dies Sunday morning from the effects of a stroke suffered 10 days before.

Mr. Redies was born on March 8, 1869 in Mecklenburg, Germany the son of Carl and Karolina Redies. Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church while still in Germany in 1882, he came to the United States a short time later with his parents. The family lived in New York about one year before they moved to Bremer county to make their home on a farm near Tripoli.

In 1900 he was married to Anna Kueker. About 10 years ago his health failed to the extent he had difficulty walking. He then moved to Tripoli to live at the home of a daughter, Esther Redies.

He had suffered several strokes in the past two years and had been confined to his home.

He is survived by five sons, Fred, Cedar Rapids, Gustav and Arthur, Tripoli, Henry and Emil, Waverly; five daughters, Alma Goodenbour, Jesup, Elda Wille, Denver, Lucinda Wittenburg, Readlyn, Darlene Biesterfelt and Esther Redies, Tripoli; one sister, Mrs. Alvina Lohman, Tripoli; 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; one brother, Frank and two sisters, Bertha Stein and Amelia Kueker preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 at the Rettig Funeral home at Tripoli and at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Artesian at 2; burial in Artesian cemetery.
