Eugene E. Redies, 75, of Frederika, died Thursday, May 7, 2009, at his residence.

Eugene was born June 3, 1933, the son of Emil and Elenore (Griese) Redies in Warren Township, Bremer County. He was baptized June 25, 1933 and confirmed May 25, 1947, at St. Paul's Missouri Lutheran, Artesian. He attended St. Paul's Missouri Lutheran, Artesian through the 7th grade and finished his education at Douglas #1.

He helped his family on the farm until he enlisted in the Army in 1953. Upon his honorable discharge in 1955 he returned to Bremer County where he would farm for 30 years. He worked as a security guard for Nestle's in Waverly for 18 years, retiring in 2003.

On February 12, 1956, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Droste at St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church in Denver.

Eugene was a member of St. Paul Lutheran, Siegel in Tripoli and American Legion Post 653 in Denver, Iowa. He was an avid collector of toy tractors and loved to fish and garden.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Carolyn, daughters; Melodie (Jack Smith) Redies of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Deesa (Greg) Gaetzke of Frederika, Radene (Mike) Coughlon of Des Moines, Lesley (Darrol) Mohlis of Sumner, sons; Todd (Pam) Redies of Tripoli, Brett (Shari) Redies of Boone, Darin (Tammy) Redies of Waverly, Kyle (Kristin) Redies of Des Moines; 22 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; 14 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Marian Latwesen and Janice Remley, and a great niece, Renee Stalhut.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at St. Paul Lutheran, Siegel in Tripoli with burial in the church cemetery with military rites performed by American Legion Post 653 of Denver. Visitation will be on Monday, May 11, 2009, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and for an hour prior to service time at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the family and on-line condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly is in charge of arrangements.
