Pioneer of Dayton Township Laid to Rest at Tripoli

Louis Gaede, 77, pioneer resident of Dayton township and Tripoli, died at his home in this city Saturday morning, February 14, following a prolonged illness. Death was due to cancer.

Louis Gaede was born in Large Woods, Mecklenburg, Germany, June 19, 1853. His boyhood was spent in that country and there he received his education in the public and religious schools. When a young man he immigrated to this country and lived for a while in the state of Illinois.

Following a short period in Illinois, he came to Bremer county. On July 21, 1879, he was married to Emilie Bartels in Leroy township. Following his marriage, he and his wife took up farming in Dayton township. For thirty-four years he followed that occupation. In 1911, after years of hard work, he decided to leave the farm and enjoy the fruits of his labors, moving his family to Tripoli, making his residence here since that time.

Mr. Gaede was a good citizen and a good neighbor. He was a member of the St. Peter's Evangelical church and was held in high esteem by all who knew him.

About two years ago he began to fail in health and during the past year has been confined to the home a greater share of the time. Death came early Saturday morning, he having reached the age of 77 years, 8 months and 25 days.

Surviving are his widow; four sons, Louis and Emil, east of town; Herman of Waterloo and Henry of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Koop, of this city, and Ida, at home; besides one sister and 18 grandchildren and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, February 17th, at 1 o'clock, followed with services at the St. Peter's Evangelical church, Rev. K. K. Koehler, officiating. Burial was made in the St. Peter's Evangelical cemetery, north of town, where a daughter, Bertha, also is buried. - Tripoli Leader.
