E. Borcherding, lifelone area resident, died

Erwin Borcherding, 55, lifelong resident of the Sumner area, died at 5:40 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, shortly after having been admitted. Death was attributed to internal hemorrhaging.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. at St. John American Lutheran Church with the pastors Rev. Kenneth Alpers and Rev. John Sorenson, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Emerson-Milnes Funeral Home of Sumner was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Erwin Borcherding was born February 18, 1919 on a farm in Chickasaw County, the son of Henry and Wilhelmina (Block) Borcherding. He was baptized March 3, 1919 at St. John American Lutheran Church, Sumner.

Following his mother's death January 21, 1929, he continued to live with his father and family members on the farm residence.

On March 1, 1946, his father established their home in Sumner. They made their home with his sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Albrecht for many years.

On December 1, 1966, he and his father took residence at Hillcrest Home. His father, Henry Borcherding died on June 13, 1969. Erwin Borcherding continued to reside at Hillcrest Home until his death.

Survivors include two sisters, Elsie, Mrs. Ralph Albrecht and Emilda, Mrs. Clarence Niewoehner, both of Sumner; three brothers, Arthur and Emil of Sumner and Leslie of Waverly; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Edna; and two brothers, Werner and Alfred.
