Mrs. Mary Lease, longtime area resident, died
Mrs. Mary A. Lease, 94, longtime resident of Sumner, died Saturday, April 29, at Sumner Community Memorial Hospital of complications incident to advanced age.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Salem United Methodist Church with the pastor, Rev. Robert R. MacCannon, officiating. Burial was in the Wilson Grove Cemetery north of Sumner. Emerson-Milnes Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mary A. Lease was the daughter of John and Hedwig Lang and was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 3, 1877. She had reached the age of 94 years, four months and sixteen days at the time of her death.

She had come to Sumner at an early age and has resided in this community most of her life.

She was married to Jay A. Lease on November 16, 1896 and the couple lived on a farm for five years, then moved to Sumner, which has since been her home.

For the past several years, she has been a resident of Hillcrest Home in Sumner.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Florence M. Lease of Sumner; two brothers, Frank and William Lang of Sumner; one sister, Mathilda Hadley of Wooster, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jay A. Lease in 1955, one son, Earl in 1952, one sister, Anna Madden, and two brothers, Henry and John Lang.
