RESPECTS PAID TO ESTEEMED WOMAN SUNDAY AFTERNOON
Mrs. John Lang, 69, Laid to Rest in Zion Cemetery Northwest of Town

Brief mention of the death of Mrs. John Lang was made in last week's Gazette. Her demise occurred Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock after almost a year of failing health. She had been a sufferer from a complication of diabetes, gall and heart trouble. During the time of suffering she was tenderly cared for by her sons and daughters, whose great love and affection helped to mitigate her suffering.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Evangelical church, Rev. J. D. Kooz officiating. Interment was made in Zion cemetery, northwest of Sumner.

Mrs. Hedwig Lang, nee Atzler, wife of John Lang of this place, was born September 29, 1853, in Michlau, Kreis Brieg, Silesia (Schlesien), Germany, and passed away in her home in Sumner, May 18, 1932, at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 19 days.

Mrs. Lang grew to womanhood in Germany where on July 8, 1873, she was joined in holy wedlock to John Lang who survives her, and with whom she shared nearly 59 years the joys and sorrows and labors of a busy life. Their union was blessed with seven children, four sons and three daughters, one son preceding his mother about 40 years ago, at the age of nearly 16 years.

Soon after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Lang bid farewell to their home in Germany and came to America, settling near Chicago. The following year they came to Clayton county, Iowa, where 10 years were spent, and in 1884 they made Bremer county their home, adapting themselves to farming near Sumner until 1903 when they located in Sumner, enjoying their hard earned rest.

During the services of Rev. A. Hauser in 1888-91, Mrs. Lang gave her heart to the Lord and became a devout member of the Evangelical church.

She leaves to mourn her grief stricken companion; three sons and three daughters: Mrs. C.R. Madden of Marshall, Minn., Frank Lang and Mrs. J.A. Lease of Sumner, Mrs. I.D. Hadley of Wooster, Ohio, William Lang of Sumner, and John R. Lang of Reinbeck; also nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers in Berlin, Germany, and one sister at Orange, Calif., besides many friends.

Mrs. Lang's Christian life and faith was most beautiful. Being blessed with a fine tempered nature and a sweet temper, she exercised a most wholesome influence in her home and over her loved ones. Her patience and forebearing was and is a beautiful tribute. A mother beloved has passed from our midst to be with Him whom she served.
