Arlie "Bergy" Bergmann, 82, of Waverly and formerly from Tripoli, Iowa, died on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at his son's home in Tripoli.
Arlie L. Bergmann was born on October 2, 1928, the son of Herman and Wilhelmine "Minnie" (Hirsch) Bergmann at his parent's home in Western Douglas Township, rural Plainfield, Iowa. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Siegel on October 28, 1928 and confirmed in 1942 also at St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Siegel. He attended Douglas #7 country school and then Tripoli High School up to the 11th grade. At which time he began farming until 1963. On February 25, 1951, he was united in marriage to Ardis P. Visser at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly, Iowa. He drove the milk truck for the Bremer Creamery for a few years. Bergy then did some construction work for Kehe Construction finally worked for John Deere for 27 years. Retiring from John Deere's in 1987.

Bergy was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly, Wapsie Sportsman's Club and the V.F.W. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting and doing wood working.

Survivors are his wife, Ardis Bergmann of Waverly, Iowa; two daughters, Jan (Larry) Smith of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Sheri Bergmann of Waterloo; son, Rodney Bergmann of Tripoli, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, Dustin Smith, Jessica Smith, Brett Smith and Matthew Fox; 5 great grandchildren, Alanah, Camden, Brekin, Cohen and Hudson Smith and by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leland and Orlyn Bergmann; sisters-in-law, Esther and Betty Bergmann and by a nephew, Lionel "Lid" Bergmann.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 1:30 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Phil Olson officiating. Burial will follow in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Memorials may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
