Maynard Buhr, 79, of Waverly, Iowa, formerly of Readlyn, died Wednesday morning, February 13, 2002, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community of natural causes.

Maynard was born October 14, 1922, the son of William and Kate (Boeger) Buhr, in Maxfield Township, Readlyn, Iowa. Maynard attended county school in rural Readlyn and following his schooling he continued to live on the family farm.

Maynard was united in marriage to Dorlene Sommer on February 27, 1949. The couple made their home on the family farm where he lived and farmed until becoming a resident of the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Home following a stroke in July 2000.

Maynard was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Readlyn and Farm Bureau. He enjoyed farming, going to farm sales, motorcycles, talking with friends, spending time with his family and friends, especially his special granddaughter, Ashley.

Maynard is survived by his wife Dorlene of Waverly, Iowa; one daughter, Penny Kohagen and her husband, Steve of Waverly, Iowa; one granddaughter, Ashley Kohagen of Waverly, Iowa; two brothers, John Buhr of Sumner, Iowa, and Willard Buhr of Waterloo, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Frank, Richard and Stanley; and three sisters, Abigail, Lavera and Gennevia.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 15, 2002 at 1:30 P.M. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly. Burial will be held in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Friday from 9:00 A.M. until services at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the family.
