Obituary Mrs. Johanna Steege Sumner Gazette 2 Feb 1932

Funeral Services St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, internment at St. John’s Cemetery three miles west of Sumner . . .
. . . Born February 16, 1862 at Woltersdorf,, Pommern, Germany. She was confirmed in 1874 in the Lutheran church at Wachelien, Pommern, Germany. She came to this country in 1884, first living in Dayton Township and soon moved northwest of town coming to this community four years later. During her residence was a member of the Spring Fountain St. John’s Lutheran church, and after moving to Sumner remained faithful to St. Paul’s Lutheran church . . .
She was married to Henry Steege April 3, 1888. To this union were born nine children, four of whom survive her: Mrs. H.J. Kuker, Mrs. E.F. Kuepker and Richard Steege of this place, and Mrs. A. W. Claus of Lisbon, North Dakota.. She is also survived by seven step-grandchildren: Henry, Fred and August Steege, and Mrs. L.H. Braun all of this vicinity, Will Steege of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Ernest Dettmer of Waterloo, and John Steege of Glendale, Calif., One Brother Fred Wolfgram of Tripoli, and one sister Minnie Haeger of Waterloo; also 27 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death May 12, 1930.
