An Old Soldier "Mustered Out!"
George Carrol Shaffer, one of the old solderers, died at 6 o'clock a.m., April 27, 1904, at his home in the 5th ward. He was born in Larain county, Ohio, 67 years ago. At the age of 14 he moved with his parents to Green county, Wisconsin. On the 12th day of February, 1864, he enlisted as a soldier in the union army, in the 4th Wisconsin Cavalry. He was honorably discharged, July 19, 1865. He came to Waverly 37 years ago and has lived here since. His widow and seven children survive him. The funeral will be from the house at 2 o'clock p.m., April 29th. The funeral services will be under the direction of Robbins Post G.A. R., and Rev. Frank Cole. of the Methodist Episcopal church will conduct the religious services. Burial in Harlington cemetery.
