DIED
In this city, on Friday, February 9th, 1877, Mary M. wife of George C. Shaffer, aged 36 years, 11 months and 2 days.
The funeral services of Mrs. Shaffer were held in the M.E. Church, in this city, on Sabbath morning last, Rev. F. M. Robertson officiating. There was the father of the deceased bowed down with age and grief, mourning his lost daughter, a husband and helpless children gazing for the last time upon wife and mother, a sympathizing congregation eagerly listening to the words of comfort derived from the words of the Apostle Paul, "For me to live is Christ and to die is gain." Mrs. Shaffer was born March 7th, 1840, in Menter, Lake county, Ohio. When only five years of age her parents moved to Wisconsin. In 1853 she united with the M.E. church. In 1857 she became the wife of George C. Shaffer. Ten years ago the family moved to Iowa, and made Waverly their home. Six children in this death, now mourn a mother, and aged parent a dearly beloved daughter, and a husband a good and faithful wife. May he -the husband- be to the little helpless ones left on his hands all that a kind, gentle and loving father can be.
