John Carl Peters was born in Germany, Oct 8, 1860 where he also became God's child in baptism. When he was only a little over a year old his parents, ***** and Johanna Peters, left Germany to found a new Home in America. While crossing the Atlantic on ****, Mr. Peters became ill and died. His widow, with her infant and brother-in-law, arrived in America and traveled west to Naperville, Ill., near Chicago, where they made their home.

About a year later Mrs. Peters married John Peters, the brother of her deceased husband. The family remained in Illinois about twelve years longer and then moved to Bremer County, Iowa, settling on a farm in Fremont township several miles south**** of Tripoli.

Mr. Peters attended confirmation school under Pastor Reinhart Wobus, who also confirmed him in 1875. On Oct 19, 1884, he was united in holy matrimony with Miss Emma Buenger by the pastor L. Lobeck.

They made their home on the farm in Fremont township where Mr. Peters has resided ever since. Their union was blessed with *** children of whom seven survive to mourn the passing of their father.

Mrs. Peters preceded him into eternity in 1905. Mr. Peters was active in his church, serving as member of the church council. He also served the community in which he lived as school director, by helping found the Fremont Creamery Association and served as one of the officers.

Mr. Peters had not been in good health for some time, although his ailment did not confine him to his bed. Shortly before Christmas, he went to the home of his daughter near Waverly for a visit. While there his condition became much worse, though he was still able to be up much of the time. A while ago it became evident that he would not be here much longer. He was comforted and strengthened once more with the Holy Supper of the Lord and during his last days with the word of the Lord and prayer. Only a few hours before his end, he was still able to join his pastor in the Lords Payer. The end came quietly Saturday evening at 11:30 o'clock when God called him home to his final reward at the age of 79 years, four months and two days.

To mourn his departure Peters leaves seven children, five daughters and two sons. Bernice (Mrs Louis Wenthe), Waverly. Hulda (Mrs. Otto Pape) of Monona; Amanda (Mrs. Albert ****ting), New Hampton; Minnie and Elsie at home, and Herman and William living in this community, 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Herman, Readlyn; two sisters Emma Brockman, Readlyn, and Mrs. Martha Dettering of Tripoli and other more distant relatives and friends.
