Edwin N. Mowatt, a well known dairy farmer of Frederika township, was born in Winnebago county, Illinois, February 24, 1869. He is a son of John M. Mowatt, who came to Bremer county at an early date and engaged in farming on section 8, Frederika township, until he retired in 1901 and moved to Frederika.

Edwin N. Mowatt was reared upon his father's property and acquired his education in the district schools of this township and in the public schools of Frederika. He succeeded his father in the ownership of the farm and has continued the work of improving and developing it, keeping the buildings in good repair and everything about the place in excellent condition. He engages in dairy farming and because he follows always the most progressive and practical methods has met with gratifying and well deserved success.

In Bremer county, on the 3d of October, 1900, Mr. Mowatt was united in marriage to Miss Emma Frank, a daughter of William and Belinda (Kruger) Frank, natives of Germany. The parents resided in Bremer county for many years but in 1903 moved to Kansas, whence after three years they moved to Ringgold county, Iowa. They became the parents of nine children: William, deceased; John, a resident of Kankakee, Illinois; Minnie, the deceased wife of Henry Moeller, of Bremer county; George, who is still with his parents; Lizzie, the wife of Clarence Miller, of Burlington, Iowa; Emma, wife of the subject of this review; Fred, of Marshalltown, Iowa; and Ella and Edwin, at home. Mr. and Mrs. Mowatt have six children, Laura, John, Harold, Dorris, Theodore and Martha. Mr. Mowatt gives his political allegiance to the republican party and is interested in public affairs, although not active as an office seeker. He prefers to concentrate his attention upon his farming interests and he stands today among the most progressive and representative agriculturists of this locality.
