Fred Lageschulte, a representative farmer and stock-raiser of Bremer county, is one of the many industrious, enterprising and progressive citizens whom Germany has given to America. His birth occurred in that country in 1850 and he crossed the Atlantic with his parents in 1867, settling in Cook county, Illinois, where the family remained until 1871. In that year they moved to Iowa, locating in Warren township, this county, where the father purchased land and engaged in farming until his death, which occurred in 1887. His wife survived him a number of years, dying in 1912, at the advanced age of ninety. To their union were born six children, three of whom died in Germany. The others are: Fred, of this review; Charlotte, the wife of Fred Racker; and Sophia.

Fred Lageschulte acquired his education in the public schools of his native country and after coming to Bremer county assisted in the operation of his father's farm until after the latter's death. He then came into possession of the homestead, to which he has added from time to time, accumulating finally the eight hundred and sixty-five acres which he now owns. This land is located on sections 17, 8, 18 and 19, Warren township, and in addition to it Mr. Lageschulte owns a tract of one hundred and sixty-nine acres in Lafayette township. His holdings are divided into several farms. A great deal of this property is in a high state of cultivation and the farms are well improved, being equipped with substantial buildings and machinery. Mr. Lageshulte engages in stock-raising and dairying and, being intelligent and capable in the management of his interests, has met with gratifying and well desrved success.

In 1882 Mr. Lageschulte married Miss Minnie Arns, who was born in Wisconsin in 1857, a daughter of Henry Arns, a native of Germany. The father came to America when a young man and settled in Wisconsin, from which state he enlisted for service in the Civil war. He moved to Iowa in 1866 and has lived in Bremer county since that time. He retired from active life in 1898 and moved to Waverly, where he now resides. He and his wife became the parents of eleven children, ten of whom survive. Mr. and Mrs. Lageschulte became the parents of seven children: William and Henry, of Warren township; Martha, who married Frank Christophel, of Lafayette township; Frank, Fred and Edward, at home; and David, who died in infancy. The parents are members of the Evangelical church.

Mr. Lageschulte gives his political allegiance to the republican party and is interested in public affairs without being active as an office seeker. His attention is concentrated upon the management of his large interests and his success places him among the representative and able men of this community.
