Carl H. Poock, a member of the firm of Poock & Meier, harness makers of Readlyn and one of the most progressive and active young business men of the city, is a native of Bremer county, born in Maxfield township, March 5, 1886. He is a representative of one of the well known pioneer families of this part of Iowa, his grandfather having settled in Maxfield township in very early times. His parents J. Henry and Dora (Koeling) Poock, resided in this locality for a number of years and the father still makes his home in Denver, having survived his first wife since January 26, 1894. To their union were born the following children: Henry, of Maxfield township; Mrs. Anna Meier, who resides in Blackhawk county; William, also of Blackhawk county; Ernest, who resides in Denver, Iowa; Carl H., of this review; August of North Dakota; Mrs. Dora Happel, of Blackhawk county; and Hilda of the same locality. After the death of his first wife J. Henry Poock was again married and to his second union was born one son, Erich, residing with his parents in Denver.

Carl H. Poock was reared at home and acquired his education in the district schools of Maxfield township. He aided in the operation of the homestead until he was nineteen years of age and then learned the harness-maker's trade. On the 1st of September, 1908, he formed a partnership with Mr. Meier and they organized the firm of Poock & Meier, now controlling one of the well known business concerns of Readlyn. Mr. Meier owns a similar enterprise at Tripoli and Mr. Poock has charge of the Readlyn store which he manages in a capable and practical way. He carries a complete stock of leather goods and has built up a large patronage, for his business methods are at all times honorable and his prices reasonable.

On the 29th of June, 1910, Mr. Poock was united in marriage, to Miss Carolina Heidemann, who was born in Frederika township, Bremer county, December 2, 1888. Her parents, William and Amelia (Schirrep) Heidemann, were natives of Germany, and among the earliest residents of Bremer county, where the father engaged in farming successfully for many years. He retired from active life in 1908 and took up his residence in his new home in Tripoli. He and his wife became the parents of two children: William, who was born May 20, 1885, and who now resides in Jefferson township; and Mrs. Poock, wife of the subject of this review. Mr. and Mrs. Poock have become the parents of a daughter, Esther Viola, who was born in Readlyn, April 11, 1911. Mr. Poock has just completed the building of a new home in Readlyn and he and his wife are widely and favorably known in the city. They are members of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church and Mr. Poock gives his political allegiance to the democratic party. His attention, however, is largely concentrated upon his business affairs and in this field he has met with gratifying and well deserved success.
