Frederick H. Albrecht, living retired in Waverly, after having been closely connected for many years with agricultural interests of Bremer county, was born in Genesee county, New York, on the 28th of September, 1858. He is a son of John and Minnie (Mitteldorf) Albrecht, natives of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany, the former born January 3, 1828, and the latter September 28, 1831. Their marriage occurred in Germany and after they emigrated to America they settled in Genesee county, New York, the father working at farming in the employ of others for five years. He then moved to Bremer county, Iowa, and spent one season in Jefferson township, after which he rented land in Warren township. Eventually he purchased this farm and continued to reside upon it until 1903, when he moved into Waverly, where his death occurred. His wife has also passed away, dying July 8, 1886. Two children were born to their union, of whom the subject of this review is the elder.

Frederick H. Albrecht acquired his education in the district school at Trumbo Grove, adjoining his father's farm, and from his childhood he assisted in the operation of the homestead. After his marriage, which occurred in 1883, he purchased eighty acres adjoining the home farm and he and his father cooperated in their agricultural operations for two and a half years. At the end of that time the mother died and the father retired from active life, Frederick Albrecht assuming charge of all of his property. For twenty years thereafter he continued to operate the homestead, bringing it to a high state of cultivation and becoming known as one of the prosperous and representative farmers of this locality. He added greatly to the original tract but has since sold a lot for a school building, owning today one hundred ninety-nine and a half acres. He operated the property until he retired from active life, moving into Waverly, where he now resides. He is a stockholder in the Brooks Lumber commpany and his ability is well known in business circles.

On the 6th of November, 1883, Mr. Albrecht married Miss Louise Schumacher, who was born in Jefferson township, this county, November 2, 1858. She is a duaghter of Frederick and Dorothea (Selk) Schumacher, the former born in Hanover, Germany, December 7, 1828, and the latter in Mecklenburg, December 25, 1840. The father emigrated to America and settled immediately in Bremer county, whence he went to Illinois, where his marriage occurred. He afterward returned to his farm in Maxfield township, this county, and there resided until his wife died in 1874. The father later moved to Sumner township, residing there until his death, which occurred about the year 1900. Mr. and Mrs. Albrecht have a son, Clarence J., who was born September 28, 1891. He is an expert taxidermist, having studied this science in Iowa City and extended mention is made of him in the sketch following this. His father has given up one room in the family residence to his son, who has filled it with as fine a collection of stuffed animals as can be found in the state of Iowa.

Mr. Albrecht gives his political allegiance to the republican party and has served as secretary of the school board and is now alderman from the second ward. His long period of residence in Bremer county has made him widely and favorably known here and his success is well deserved, rewarding many years of earnest and capable labor.
